Beyond AODA Compliance: Disability Inclusive Hiring
Did you know that in Ontario, over 400,000 businesses should be complying with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disability Act (AODA) and that 370,000 of those businesses are considered to be small to medium sizes?
Education is a core component of Beyond AODA Compliance: Disability Inclusive Hiring — Empowering Inclusivity. It emphasizes the importance of education to increase awareness and change attitudes towards people who have a disability as both consumers and employees.
In this course, we use storytelling to bring education to all businesses and employers, across Ontario – by comparing two businesses in a small town and their approaches to AODA compliance, we explore AODA requirements and the business case for hiring more inclusively.
In small communities, businesses have a direct impact on their customers, and accessibility can significantly affect reputation and customer loyalty. By contrasting these two businesses—one that fully embraces accessibility measures and another that barely meets the minimum requirements—the story sheds light on differing attitudes towards disability inclusion in the workplace.
